Topic: Joining IRC Channel for christiantechsaz.com
We have incorporated our very own IRC chat channel. You will have two options to join the channel now. The first is the easiest. Go here to begin chatting.
The second is a bit more involved, however, it is a more permanent solution. Now for the low down on how to get a client that is easy to use, configure it to work with the IRC chat channel and how to register yourself with the IRC server.
Go get yourself a decent IRC client for your platform (Windows, Linux or Mac). I recommend Pidgin, because it is easy to setup and use, while having the ability to connect to every protocol (MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Jabber, IRC, etc) out there. It also is capable of running on Windows, Linux or Mac.
After you have downloaded and installed the client. we will need to configure your client to work with IRC. Go to the "Accounts" menu, then "Manage Accounts". Once you have done that, you will see "Add...", click that. Select your protocol now, in this case, "IRC".
An important part, you are going to pick a username. Be careful what you place here, as it is the username that will stick with you for your IRC life (until you decide to register another nickname!).
We are getting to the nitty gritty. In the server portion, put: irc.freenode.net Put in a password that you will remember, and tick the box that says "Remember Password"
That's it, for the configuration of connecting to the server.
Now we are at the last steps, we need to register your nickname that you chose in step three and connect you to the #christiantechs room.
We need to add a room, #christiantechs Go to the "Buddies" menu, select "Add Chat...". Select your "irc.freenode.net" account. In the "Channel' box, type "#christiantechs", without the parenthesis. There is no password to join. You can add it to a group if you would like and give it an "Alias" or a short name. Tick the two boxes at the bottom, "Autojoin when account becomes online" and "Remain in chat after window is closed". Click the "Add" button. Now you will see the room in your chat list.
We need to register the username that you created in step three. Open the new chat room that you created from your list. In the chat box that comes up, type:
/msg nickserv register <your_password> <your_e-mail_address>
<your_password>, is your password, without the arrows. <your_e-mail_address> is your e-mail address without the arrows.
That should do it, you should now be successfully registered and will be able to chat anytime that you want. Thanks for joining and look forward to serving with you!
